Sol City by Rozefire Sol City by Rozefire
I wasn't doing much, so I doodled this. ^^ I'm not entirely happy with it because a) I'm pretty sure some of the perspective is off on the left hand side, and b) because it's drawn solely in pencil with the tones added in Photoshop. I wanted to use my pen, but my dog chewed it up so badly that the ink is coming out of the wrong end. >.< Stupid dog...

So, as I'm too impatient to wait for the new pen to arrive, I just finished it in pencil. Blah.

Well anyway, this is Sol City. A place where the sun shines 24 hours a day and there is a permanent hosepipe ban in place. Plants shrivel and die unless kept indoors and it's against the law to walk around without some sort of sun protection, eg. hat, sun cream factor 600, etc. Again, it's connected to the original story I am writing. Slowly.

(ps. that should be Sol with a little line over the O. But DA sucks, so no line.)

Without the line it's more straight to the point. Sol.:sun:
I like the concept.

This is a lovely image, i love the limited amount of colour and the amount of detail. Truly beautiful

I love this. The perspective is askew so this piece is full of tension and uneasyness. It's awesome. I wouldn't change a thing.

I like the writings on the walls and signs especially. I noticed that the o with the dash off the top is in, like, every place you use that language :3 *is a nitpicker*
I don't care if the perspective is off, it gives the whole place sort of a warped feel, like just by looking at the place, you know something's different.^^ Like everybody else, I really like the detail, too!
I can't draw buildings/cities worth stinking poo xC

I love that shadows are not dark, they are subtle, gentle, as if I can see the whole city... And it's located inside somebody's feelings at dawn, beautiful

it's an amazing piece for a doodle. the perspective may be off in places but it adds character to the image. :D

btw, are those tails on those kids? :?

what's the story, hmmm? :sherlock: it seems pretty interesting. :aww:

Well, it's hard to have good proportions when you're at a point where the items are really close... so yeah, this is fantabulous!

Dont you fins its better when perspectives dont add up?? :) much more interesting ^^

I dont know how intentional the subtle/no colour was but it makes it seem even hotter! real nice piece! :D

Must not be any black people in Sol city, we don't need no stinkin' sunscreen.

Pretty nice work, the perspective is really interesting, and feels like the world is falling

the effect is cool!
Shitaka-ga-nai Featured By Owner Dec 2, 2006
Wow, its very nice. In my opinion the leaning building and the grate and all those little mistakes that us humans can make and do, make the picture seem, well, more human. It makes the city seem more haphazard, buit up on itself, with little things added her and there, more real I guess?

I love this style of looks all washed out and bleached--but that's sepia for you! Also, a very interesting concept for the story...I'd like to hear more from that!
MonkeyDan1 Featured By Owner Oct 30, 2006
Nice, I really like the layered city, and the bright tones show off the fact that the sun is so darned bright.

Great cityscape. I love the colors and the angle and the focus. The picture really pulls you in from the top and guides you down to the bottom left to see those kids. It's really good.

its clear that its an artists expression of massive city buildings.

I love street images, and I admire very much people who do them, cause they're so complex. Your style is amazing, i like it very much! Keep it up!
Namik0 Featured By Owner Oct 29, 2006
Ya, the building on the left is slanted, none the less, it is still a completely awesome drawing.

Well, the sun always shines in Alaska, but definetly not as bright as I would imagine it does in Sol City. That little thing kinda hanging of the street overpass looks kinda like Momo from Avatar (for those who know who it is and/or watch it).
